POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY ALERTS PUBLIC TO FRAUDULENT SCAM INVOLVING FALSE REPRESENTATION OF ACTING CFO
Polokwane Municipality has been made aware of a concerning scam targeting members of our community. It has come to the municipality’s attention that certain individuals have been receiving fraudulent email communications from a scammer who falsely claims to be the Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Polokwane Municipality, Mr. Thabo Nonyane.
The scam involves the use of an email address designed to appear authentic but is, in fact, fraudulent. In this deceitful scheme, the scammer requests unsuspecting potential service providers to contact a specific number under the pretext of discussing the appointment of a tender.
Polokwane Municipality categorically states that neither the phone number nor the email address used by the scammer belongs to the Acting CFO, Mr. Thabo Nonyane. The municipality urges all stakeholders and potential service providers to exercise extreme caution and vigilance when receiving such unsolicited communications.
The municipality would like to remind the public of the importance of verifying the authenticity of any requests for personal information and to thoroughly check email addresses, confirm identities, and avoid engaging with unsolicited communications, particularly those involving financial matters or the promise of tenders and jobs.
Any suspicious activity, including fraudulent calls or messages, should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities and the police for investigation and action.
