Today, Polokwane Municipality extended a helping hand to its residents in need by donating four houses. Located in Manyapje Ga-Mashashane, Mankweng, Moletjie Ga-Manamela, and Thokgwaneng, these houses represent more than just bricks and mortar – they symbolize the restoration of dignity and hope for those who have been living in dire conditions.

But why is the municipality donating houses to the poor, you might wonder? The answer lies in the municipality’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the lives of its citizens, particularly those facing economic hardship and housing insecurity. Recognizing the fundamental human right to decent housing, the municipality took decisive action to address the housing needs of its most vulnerable residents.

This noble endeavor was made possible through a collaborative effort with Standard Bank, whose partnership and support played a pivotal role in making these houses a reality. Together, the municipality and Standard Bank worked tirelessly to ensure that those in need could finally have a place to call home.

But the generosity didn’t stop there. In addition to receiving new homes, the beneficiaries were also provided with beds and food parcels, further easing their transition into their surroundings.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the MMC representing the Executive Mayor, Cllr Fikile Mashalane, highlighted the significance of the occasion. “What makes today more special is that all the beneficiaries of the houses handed over today are living with one form of disability,” said Cllr Mashalane. “Despite them living in shacks and with disability, these families also have children to look after and raise.”

Indeed, the stories of the beneficiaries are a poignant reminder of the challenges they have faced and overcome. From physical disabilities to mental disorders, each family has a unique journey marked by resilience and perseverance. As Cllr Mashalane aptly stated, “All the beneficiaries have a touching story to tell.”

In closing, Cllr Mashalane expressed gratitude to Standard Bank for their invaluable partnership and support. “This is why we take this opportunity to take off our hats to Standard Bank for coming to the party and partnering with us to lend a hand to those members of the community who are in need and without proper housing,” she remarked.

In restoring dignity to its residents, the municipality has not only provided shelter but also renewed faith in the promise of a brighter future for all.
