UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY RESTORATION FROM LEPELLE NORTHERN WATER

Polokwane Municipality wishes to update residents and businesses within its jurisdiction that the municipality has received official communication from Lepelle Northern Water regarding progress on the restoration of water pumping from Olifantspoort Scheme.

Lepelle Northern Water has confirmed the successful completion of the first pump installation at Olifantspoort Pump Stations 2 and 3. The planned shutdown, which commenced on Tuesday, 18 June 2025, was completed within the projected 48-hour window and the new pumps were successfully commissioned and brought online this morning at 06:00.

As a result of this work, reservoirs within Polokwane Municipality are expected to begin receiving water soon. However, it should be noted that it may still take some time before flow reaches all affected areas as the pipeline was empty.

The next phase of pump installations is scheduled from 2 to 3 July 2025, with full project completion expected by the end of September 2025.

Polokwane Municipality appreciates the patience and understanding shown by all affected communities during this period.

The municipality encourages residents to continue using water sparingly as the system gradually stabilizes.
