POLKWANE MOURNS THE PASSING OF COUNCILLOR MARTIN LESETJA SEGOALE

Polokwane Municipality is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of one of its serving councillors, Cllr Martin Lesetja Segoale who represented the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Council. Cllr Segoale passed away on Monday, 23 June 2025.

His journey with the municipality began in 2017 when he joined as a General Worker. His dedication to community service saw him rise to become a Proportional Representative (PR) Councillor in 2021 under the banner of the EFF, where he continued to serve with distinction and fervent passion.

Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Cllr Segoale, describing his passing as a loss to both the municipality and the broader political fraternity.

“We have lost a vibrant and fearless leader whose voice echoed the aspirations of his community and the political organisation he so dearly served, the EFF. Cllr Segoale embodied the spirit of servant leadership. As the municipality, we mourn alongside his family, friends, fellow councillors, and the entire EFF collective. May his revolutionary spirit live on through the lives he touched and the work he committed himself to within Council chambers and the communities he served. We extend our deepest condolences and stand in solidarity with his political home during this difficult time,” said the Executive Mayor.

The final farewell for Cllr Segoale will take place on Saturday, 28 June 2025 in Luthuli Phase 1, with the funeral service commencing at 07:00, before proceeding to the gravesite.

The municipality lowers its banner in honour of a public servant whose contribution, though cut short, remains indelible.
