The situation at Olifantspoort plant, in terms of water supply to Polokwane, has not improved.

The plant was shut off on Thursday evening and after operations resumed on Saturday, the plant was stormed in and vandalized by community members yesterday.

According to the information that the municipality received from Lepelle Northern Water, they have service providers going on site to try and get the plant back in operation. However, they are indicating that there is unrest in that area as residents have blockaded the route to the plant.

The water board and the municipality are engaging the security cluster at higher level to safeguard the plant.

All areas of supply including the City, Mankweng and Seshego are affected.

The municipality will continue to deploy water tankers as a temporary relief measure.

The municipality will provide regular updates regarding the situation at the plant as and when received from the water board.
