Polokwane Municipality warns job seekers about the job scam alert sent to them by individuals pretending to be officials working in the municipal Human Resource division.

Potential victims are invited to job interviews that are, according to the recent scam, to take place at the municipal offices. The scammers identify themselves as Mr. Maphanga and Mr. Molapo from Human Resource Department and request their potential victims to call them on 065 506 2259.

The municipality confirms that there are currently no interviews scheduled for admin clerks and that there are no officials by the names of Mr. Maphanga and Mr. Molapo within our Human Resources Unit. The matter has been referred to our community safety section to follow up with the police.

Members of the public should know that this is a scam when:

  • they receive interview invite via an SMS. The municipality does not use SMSs to invite candidates for interviews;
  • they are requested to call the sender back on their cellphone number. The municipality does not request to be called back by candidates, and for that case on a sender's cellphone;
  • a potential victim is required to make payment fee in advance. The municipality does not request interview candidates to pay any monies to any individual in any way whatsoever in in exchange for job placement; and
  • you are invited to an interview for a job that you did not apply for. We urge the public to be vigilant and not accept any job offer they did not apply for or never conducted an interview for.

    Members of the public are urged to ignore such messages and to alert the authorities including the police about any suspicious activities related to municipal vacancies. The HR department can be contacted on 015 290 2116 to verify the authenticity of interviews. Polokwane Municipality's Community Safety unit is contactable on 015 290 2457.
