All water users are urged to exercise extra measures in reducing water usage. This as the Ebenezer Dam, which supplies water to Polokwane, has reached the lowest water levels.
The situation has propelled the Department of Human Settlement, Water and Sanitation to issue restrictions of raw water abstraction by 15% which will result in Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) reducing potable bulk water supply to Polokwane by the same amount.

Lepelle Northern Water draws 44 megalitres (ML) of water per day from Ebenezer to Polokwane municipal supply areas. With the water restrictions in place, Ebenezer will only be able to supply 37 ML per day to Polokwane in an effort to sustain the dam until it rains adequately. Currently, the Ebenezer Dam base is sitting at a worrying 24%.
The reduction of raw water abstraction from Ebenezer Dam is applicable immediately.

Consequently, the situation will affect all areas of supply on the Ebenezer line to Polokwane including Segwashi, Boyne, Ga-Mamabolo, Ga-Molepo, Mentz, Badimong, Mankweng, Ga-Thoka, Ga-Mothiba, Dalmada and the entire city supply area.

It is by this reason that the Polokwane Municipality and Lepelle Northern Water encourage all water users to embrace the value of this scarce resource and make water conservation a way of life. Water conservation is every user’s responsibility and way of taking care of future water users because if everyone conserves today, there will be a better tomorrow.

Polokwane Municipality and Lepelle Northern Water are working together to look at urgent alternatives that can be used as relief measures to the situation. Both institutions are confident that all users will work together with them to play their part in reducing demand during this period to ensure that water will be available for all.

Water is very scarce, yet precious commodity and must be used wisely.
