#MandelaDay2020 | All the donations in kind that are meant to assist vulnerable communities must find their way to the intended beneficiaries. This was expressed by the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng, this afternoon, during an event to handover food and other supplies necessary to assist victims of gender based violence at Seshego Hospital.

"We must never take for granted the sacrifice and teachings made by President Mandela to walk credibly in pursuit of the future of our children," she said.

The donations are made to the Thuthuzela Victim Empowerment Center based at the hospital by Anglo Platinum Polokwane Smelters.

The Executive Mayor appreciated the work done by Anglo Platinum in partnership with the municipality through various projects that are under implementation.

Ms. Sanah Machaba of Polokwane Smelters said Anglo Platinum is a social organisation and cannot absolve all the responsibilities of dealing with the Covid-19 challenges to government and have to contribute as part of the community they operate within. "We are also working on long term approach with the center to go beyond just a donation," she said.

Dr. Gopane, who is based at the hospital, appreciated the commitment by the health workers towards the victims and the support from the partners.

The Thuthuzele Victim Empowerment Center is managed by the NPA in partnership with the SAPS and the Department of Health. Most of the victims at the center are victims of rape and gender based violence. The victims include women and children.
