Polokwane Municipality
committed to the regeneration of inner cities, has
established a social housing institution which is a
municipal entity called the Polokwane Housing
Association (PHA).
PHA has a mandate to
develop and manage quality social housing (rental
accommodation), which is a programme aimed at
promoting urban restructuring. The company was
established in 2002 as a Section 21 Company and
later changed its status to a private company (Pty)
Ltd. It is governed by the Board of Directors
appointed by the Polokwane Municipality
The municipality has
donated 18 hectars of land at Corner Railway and
Witklip Streets in Ladanna to the PHA to start with
the construction.

The Project
The
1000-unit project will be implemented in two phases.
The first phase consisting of the construction of
508 units will come at a cost of around R61 million.
To cater for different household needs, the rental
houses will be available in one, two and three
bedroom units. The units will be subsidized and
thereby making them affordable. All in an endeavour to
ensure access to adequate shelter as enshrined in
the Bill of Rights.
