Polokwane Municipality will conduct a workshop on assessment rates to the community of Mankweng on Sunday 25 March 2012 at Mankweng Community Hall.

Though consultation on rates and taxes was previously conducted in the area, it was discovered during one of the municipality’s recent consultation meetings with Mankweng residents that there is confusion between assessment rates and other service charges like the consumption of water. This confusion has resulted in some residents not paying for their services. Residents will be taken through the process of property evaluation and how rates are calculated so that they have full understanding of what they have to pay for.

Assessment rates are part of the municipality’s revenue collection and nonpayment of these rates and other service charges has a negative impact on the municipality’s budget, service delivery and a crippling effect on the functioning of municipalities.

End.
